Repeat prescriptions

If you are on regular medication, then you can usually order a repeat prescription without needing to see the doctor each time. Please place your order a week before you run out.

How to get a repeat prescription

There is an order form attached to each repeat prescription you get, that shows your repeat items. Please keep the order form to make it easier to order your next prescription.

If you use the order form, please tick the items you want. If you don’t have an order form, please ensure you tell us the patient’s name, address, date of birth, contact telephone number and the names of all the medications required.

Your prescription will be ready for collection from reception after two working days, unless the doctor needs to see you.

Will I definitely get my prescription?

For your safety, the doctor may need to see or speak to you before deciding whether to issue a prescription. Reception staff can’t know in advance whether the doctor will authorise your request. They can only process it.

If any of your items cannot be issued, we will try to phone you to let you know. If we are unable to contact you then, unfortunately, we can only let you know when you come to collect the prescription. Please ensure you let us know of any change of address or phone number, including mobiles.

Problems or questions

If you need to speak to someone about your prescription please telephone 0161 225 6699.

Our practice pharmacist can advise on what your medications are for and how best to take them. Please ask a receptionist for an appointment.

Urgent prescriptions

If you have run out of your medicines and cannot delay taking them, we can try to arrange a same day prescription. If you contact us before 10.30 a.m. we may be able to have a prescription ready after 5 p.m. However, this should be a one-off only and cannot be guaranteed. Please give one week’s notice whenever possible. We are not able to prepare prescriptions while you wait.

Pharmacies may be able to supply up to five days of your medication in an emergency. They may charge for this service.

Medication reviews

The doctor or nurse will still need to see you every so often to make sure the medications are working as they should and are still the most suitable for you. So please ensure you attend for your reviews as planned. If your review is overdue we may not be able to issue your prescription.

Home deliveries

If you would like to have your medications delivered, you must arrange this with your preferred pharmacy each time. We are not responsible for deliveries and cannot ensure that the pharmacy delivers on time.

Please note that the pharmacy next to the health centre is entirely independent of the practice. For details of local pharmacies, please see the NHS website: Service search.

Please plan ahead

We need at least two working days' notice to provide a repeat prescription.

If possible, order your repeat prescription about a week before your medication is due to run out.
